In April 2017 Hainan Airlines will open its first international airport lounge and the location will be terminal 2 at Beijing Capital Airport. The airline regards it as its current flagship project and will give eligible guests “a more enjoyable and serene travel experience”.
The lounge will measure 726 sqm with capacity for up to 150 guests. It has been designed by designer Dr. Patrick Leung from Hong Kong and will offer “an aesthetic style in a refreshingly contemporary approach that combines natural materials and styles”.
The lounge will offer a dozen different areas including a traditional Chinese tea lounge, reading rooms, relaxation and sleeping rooms, showers, an exclusive VIP area and an audio-visual room. Food and drinks will be provided, including self-service Nespresso coffee.
“In designing the VIP lounge, I found inspiration in the nature and harmony of Hainan, and discarded ideas of using excessive luxury decor. I used a modern, elegant approach to introduce the peace and tranquility of Eastern philosophy, and combined this with aspects of soft lighting and ocean wave forms in the lounge, to highlight the natural beauty of Hainan”, explains Dr. Patrick Leung.
