Upgraded to British Airways Club Europe to London

The lovely beep at the gate and “Seating error” on the display of the boarding pass reader. And when I had a look I could see a printed boarding pass with my name on it on the counter. I had been upgraded to Club Europe, the shorthaul business class cabin of British Airways.

Flight BA 777 from Stockholm to London around noon seems to be fairly good for upgrades, especially during weekends when there are fewer top-tier frequent flyers. And there are plenty of transfer passengers on this flight.

The aircraft, an Airbus A320, had the new shorthaul cabin design in dark leather.

In business class, Club Europe, the middle seats are blocked to get some more space and also have a cocktail table for drinks and personal belongings.

There are also different seat covers in business class, in textile with ‘Club Europe’ on them.

After takeoff the purser came to my seat, greeted me and welcomed me onboard. He also informed me what I had already been told at the gate, that there would be no meal for me, but in his version he added the word ‘probably’. He told me he would serve all the other passengers in the cabin first, those who were paying business class customers, and if there were any meals available afterwards I would get one.

The business class cabin stretched until row 6 and all seats were taken, and from what I could see I was the only passenger who had been updated so there was a good chance at least one passenger would refuse his or her meal.

And the purser was right. After all paying passengers had been served there was indeed still a meal available for me. Unfortunately just a cold meal to London this time, a salad with prawns and eggs. Bread rolls were offered from a basket, I had a glass of white wine to drink and finally coffee and tea were offered and there was also a mousse dessert on the tray for dessert.

The meal was not bad, the service was excellent from the purser who kept an eye on me and made sure I was happy during the flight, and of course I was very happy with an upgrade. But it would have been nice with a hot meal instead on a fairly long intra-European flight over two hours in length.
