Where is it?
Novotel Birmingham Airport is located on the grounds of Birmingham airport. If fact it takes less than a minute to walk from the terminal building to the hotel lobby, the hotel is literally just across the street. This makes it a very convenient place to stay for a late evening arrival or an early morning departure and especially for those with a lot of luggage.
The arrival experience
I arrived at Birmingham airport by plane just before 10 pm. The location of the hotel is incredibly convenient. With only hand luggage I was checked in at the hotel within 20 minutes after landing, including passport control.
The check-in process was swift by a friendly man. I was informed that as a gold card holder I had been upgraded to the executive floor and I also received a drinks voucher to use in the bar.
The hotel itself is a fairly standard Novotel hotel. It is a mid-scale hotel, not exceptional by any means and there are surely far more luxurious hotels available, but there was nothing missing for a short overnight stay at an airport hotel, and of course the location is terrific.
The room
There are 195 rooms in total with a dedicated executive floor where my room was located. There was nothing really special about it except that it was located on the top floor. There was no executive lounge to visit for example.
The room had the standard Novotel room design which feels very familiar if you have stayed in other Novotel hotels before. Functional but perhaps a bit boring.
The room was spacious and had a large double bed, a sofa and a desk. There was a small gold card welcome gift on the desk with some cookies. The extra amenities in an executive room include a Nespresso coffee machine, an iPad docking station and extra bathroom amenities such as bathrobe and slippers.
Food and drinks
The hotel has a bar and a restaurant. As a gold card holder I was entitled to a drinks voucher which could be used at the bar during the stay and therefore I made a visit to the lobby bar before going to bed. The voucher can normally be used for a beer, a glass of wine or a soft drink and this was also the case at the Novotel in Birmingham.
The bar was very pleasant and cozy with a nice and relaxed atmosphere and the service was friendly.
Other facilities
There is a fitness centre at the hotel and there is also a conference centre with six conference or meeting rooms.
Service
The service was friendly throughout the stay with a quick and pleasant check-in and check-out process. Nothing whatsoever to complain about.
Breakfast
As I had an early flight and was planning to have breakfast at the airport or onboard the aircraft I skipped the breakfast in the hotel.
Final impression
A pleasant and hassle-free stay and the location of the hotel is terrific, just a minute from the terminal building. All-in-all this is a good mid-scale hotel, nothing extraordinary but there is nothing missing either. But really, the hotel is really all about location.
