Cathay Pacific today announced they have signed a partnership with Italian premium coffee producer Illy to serve their premium coffee in first class and business class. Regular illy coffee is already served onboard while espresso, café latte and cappuccino will be introduced onboard starting in March.

illy has built a reputation purchasing beans directly from the growers. According to Cathay Pacific the catering team has worked very closely with illy to choose the appropriate level of roasting in order to get the correct taste and aroma also in the air. Numerous tests have been conducted and special coffee filter ‘pillows’ for inflight use have been developed that work well with the coffee machines in the aircrafts and allow for optimal water penetration during the brewing process.
