Where is it?
The lounge is located airside, after security control, in the combined transit hall for domestic and international departures. Pass through the duty free area and proceed towards the gates, the entrance is opposite gate 17.
How do I get in?
There are few full-service lounges operating at the airport today so most passenger enter either by paying at the reception desk upon arrival (subject to availability) or by booking in advance (usually a bit cheaper).
It is also possible to enter using for example Priority Pass and Dragonpass.
What’s it like?
The lounge has the standard Escape lounge design, similar to other Escape lounges around the UK such as the ones at Manchester airport with the signature green colours used for the interior.
The lounge is fairly spacious for an airport like East Midlands, the interior is hip and contemporary and rather colourful. The atmosphere is relaxed and quite pleasant, much like a large living room. Most passengers at East Midlands airport are holidaymakers travelling on charter flights to holiday destinations.
There are several different seating areas throughout the lounge with either armchairs or sofas in vivid colours. Green-coloured glass walls are used as partition to create different lounge areas and to reduce the noise level.
Food and drinks
The food varies depending on the time of the day with both hot and cold dishes available from the buffet counter next to the reception area.
In the morning, when this visit took place, the offerings included a Full English breakfast with scrambled eggs, beans, sausages, yoghurt, cereals and pastries.
Later during the day, according to the lounge webpage, focaccia is offered, made in-house each day. Later during the day there is also a range of pastas and sauces, fresh salads and a selection of moreish cakes and biscuits.
Juices, soft drinks and still and sparkling water are available for self service from the buffet corner. All alcoholic drinks have to be ordered from the manned bar, which is becoming standard in British third-party lounges.
The selection includes several types of red and white wine as well as various spirits including gin, vodka and whisky. Champagne is also available, but at a surcharge and is not included in the lounge visit.
There are two coffee machines in the lounge, one just by the self-service buffet and another in the opposite corner of the lounge.
Facilities
Free wireless internet is available and there are newspapers and magazines by the reception desk.
Restrooms are available but there are no showers.
Final impression
A modern and colourful lounge with a relaxed atmosphere mostly targeted to leisure travellers. Reasonable hot and cold food and a manned bar.
