Where is it?
The Elite Stadshotellet Eskilstuna is located in downtown Eskilstuna, a smaller city in Sweden about 90 minutes from the capital of Stockholm, and is beautifully located just by the Eskilstuna river. The city centre with shopping, bars and restaurants is just around the corner and the railway station is about 10 minutes walk. The hotel is known as just ‘Statt'” among many locals.
The arrival experience
I arrived at the hotel around 6 pm. The check-in process was very swift by a very friendly and pleasant young woman who also provided me with a map and gave me directions for a venue later in the evening.
The room
There are 132 rooms in the hotel and my room was located on the third floor. I had booked a standard room but one without windows, which made the room rate slightly cheaper. I was not planning to spend much time in the room anyway and as it was in the middle of the winter it would be quite dark outside.
The room was well-appointed with a large double bed, two armchairs, a work desk, a wardrobe and a TV. There was also a mini bar. The adjacent bathroom had shower facilities but no bathtub. Even though the room had no windows there were large curtains along the wall which made it look like a turndown service had already been provided by the hotel.
Food and drinks
The hotel has a restaurant called Y-WON Bar & Grill which is open for lunch and dinner. This is also where the breakfast is served in the morning. The restaurant is one of the better in the city and has a nice view overlooking the river.
There is also a pub in the hotel, The Bishops Arms, a well-known chain of pubs in Sweden. It offers more than 120 types of beer and 300 types of whisky in a cozy environment. Although the pub is not run by the hotel and has a separate entrance there is also a second backdoor entrance to the pub from the hotel lobby.
Other facilities
There is a small gym on the third floor with the standard equipment such as treadmills as well as some weights. In the locker room there is a sauna which is mixed gender and accessible from both locker rooms.
The hotel was fully renovated in 2012 after a fire a few years earlier, which you can easily notice both in the room and in the public area. Everything feels new and the interior is modern and contemporary.
Service
Very friendly, helpful and prompt service throughout the hotel during the stay. Nothing whatsoever to complain about.
Breakfast
The breakfast buffet in the morning was quite good for a smaller hotel with both continental breakfast and some hot Breakfast items including scrambled eggs and sausages. They also had a waffle iron for those who prefer something sweet in the morning.
Final impression
Overall a pleasant stay in a smaller city. The hotel was completely renovated just a few years ago and the interior is very modern and in an excellent condition. Well-appointed room and friendly staff.
