Monarch Airlines files for bankruptcy

The British low-cost, holiday and charter airline Monarch Airlines this morning at 4 am filed for bankruptcy. All aircrafts have been grounded and all scheduled flights have been cancelled, including all flights scheduled to depart today.

According to a message on the Monarch Airlines website the UK Government has asked the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) to coordinate flights back to the UK for customers stranded overseas ue to fly back on or before 15 October 2017.

The bankruptcy includes no less than five different companies, which have all ceased operations.

  • Monarch Holidays Ltd (ATOL Number 2275)
  • First Aviation Ltd (ATOL Number 4888) previously trading as Monarch Airlines
  • Avro Ltd (ATOL Number 1939)
  • Somewhere2stay Ltd
