Finnair today launched its program for the summer season 2016. Four new routes will be added from Helsinki Vantaa airport and another eight routes will be converted from charter destinations to scheduled destinations. The four new destinations are Billund, Edinburgh, Longyearbyen/Svalbard and Pula.
Helsinki-Billund will start 4 April 2016 as a new year-round route and will be operated with daily flights with morning departures four days of the week and afternoon/evening departures three days of the week.
On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays flight AY 699 will depart Helsinki at 08.05 arriving in Billund at 08.55. The return flight AY 700 leaves Billund at 12.10 arriving in Helsinki at 14.55.
On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays flight AY 699 will depart Helsinki at 16.10 arriving in Billund at 17.00 The return flight AY 700 will leave Billund at 20.10 arriving in Helsinki at 22.55. All flights are operated using an Embraer 170.
Billund is the main international airport on the island of Jutland in Denmark and also home of the first Legoland theme park and the Lalandia water park.
Helsinki-Edinburgh will operate with three weekly flights, to be extended to four weekly flights during the summer season. It will operate between 18 April and 27 October 2016. The aircraft type is an Airbus A319.
On Mondays and Thursdays flight AY 927 will depart Helsinki at 08.30 arriving in Edinburgh at 09.10. The return flight AY 928 leaves Edinburgh at 09.50 arriving in Helsinki at 14.40. On Sundays flight AY 927 will depart Helsinki at 16.30 arriving in Edinburgh at 17.10. The return flight AY 928 will depart Edinburgh at 18.15 arriving back in Helsinki at 23.05.
During the summer season, between 22 June and 10 August there will also be a flight on Wednesdays departing Helsinki at 17.20 arriving in Edinburgh at 18.00. The return flight leaves at 18.40, arriving back in Helsinki at 23.30.
Helsinki-Longyearbyen will be operated with three weekly flights between 1 June and 28 August using and Embraer 190.
Flight AY 689 will depart Helsinki at 23.45 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays arriving in Longyearbyen at 01.55. The return flight AY 690 will depart Longyearbyen at 02.45 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays arriving back in Helsinki at 06.45.
Svalbard is part of Norway, located roughly two hours north of the continental Norway. Longyearbyen is the northernmost airport in the world with commercial flights. Finnair will be the first airline to offer scheduled international flights to Svalbard, which is currently only served by SAS and Norwegian to Oslo and Tromsø in Norway.
Worthing noting is that Svalbard, in contrast to the rest of Norway, is not part of the Schengen agreement. This means the flight will depart from the non-Schengen area at Helsinki Vantaa airport. Business class passengers travelling to Svalbard will have access to the Finnair longhaul lounge and gold and platinum card holders will have access to the Finnair Premium lounge with sauna
Helsinki-Pula will be operated twice weekly starting 20 June using an Airbus A319. On Mondays flight AY 185 will depart Helsinki at 07.45 arriving in Pula at 09.40 returning at 10.30 as AY 186 with arrival time back in Helsinki at 14.25. On Fridays AY 185 will depart Helsinki at 17.35 arriving in Pula at 19.30. The return flight leaves at 20.25 arriving in Helsinki at 00.20 as AY 186.
Pula is located in the region of Istria in north-western Croatia.
Eight destinations that were previously operated as charter flights will also be converted to scheduled flights: Preveza, Thira/Santorini, Rimini, Mytilene, Varna, Verona, Zakynthos and Skiathos
