The Northern Lights Lounge is the main third-party lounge at Aberdeen airport. It is one of three lounges at the airport located right next to the British Airways Lounge. There is also a third lounge operated by Eastern Airways.
And the Northern Lights Lounge is a great lounge. The interior is wonderful and very cozy and there is a nice view of the apron. There is also a rather good selection of food and drinks, including some very nice miniature burgers and other excellent snacks.
But the signature feature is the whisky bar. This is Scotland after all. According to the information on the webpage of the airport there should be 100 types of whisky available. In reality it looks like it is a bit less than that, but still, the selection is quite extensive and rather nice.
The whisky bar is located right behind the reception desk, on the other side of the wall, just around the corner after entering the lounge.
Although there are some complimentary spirits available for self service in the buffet area, the selection at the whisky bar is not. If you would like to try something you simply have to ask the reception staff and they will happily assist you, but you need to pay for it.
Nevertheless the whisky selection is excellent and although not free the prices are very affordable. 3 GBP for a glass of the Glenfiddich 12 years, or 4 GBP for a Macallan Gold.
The Northern Lights Lounge is used by airlines such as Air France and KLM for their premium passengers, which means passengers with a business class ticket or a gold card (or equivalent) get in. It is also possible to pay to enter the lounge, either in advance (usually somewhat cheaper) or at the reception desk upon arrival, or enter using various lounge cards such as Priority Pass.
The lounge is located on the first floor. Take the stairs or use the lift next to gate 1. The entrance is at the end of the corridor right after the entrance to the British Airways Lounge.
