OneWorld today launched its OneWorld Connect partner program, a program which enables smaller airlines with at least three OneWorld members as sponsors to be included as connecting partners in the OneWorld alliance.
Being a OneWorld Connect member is not the same thing as being a full member, but there are a few benefits for frequent flyers and even more benefits for frequent flyers of a sponsoring airline.
OneWorld frequent flyers flying on a OneWorld Connect airline get priority check-in and OneWorld Sapphire and Emerald members also get priority boarding.
OneWorld frequent flyers flying on a OneWorld Connect airline, being member of the program of a sponsoring carrier, will also get through check-in of tickets and bags, they will be able to earn and redeem points, earn frequent flyer status points and they also get lounge access at selected airports as well as other similar top-tier benefits. Much like when flying on any OneWorld member airline.
The first airline to become a OneWorld Connect partner will be Fiji Airways with four OneWorld sponsors – American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qantas. Qantas will additionally mentor Fiji Airways through its OneWorld connect implementation process.
