Which is the best Radisson Blu hotel in Tallinn?

Radisson Blu Sky Hotel Tallinn

There are two Radisson Blu hotels in Tallinn, both located downtown and not very far from each other, no more than about three blocks. But which one is the best? Here are a few comments on which hotel to choose.

Radisson Blu Sky Hotel

The lobby bar in the Radisson Blu Sky Hotel

This is the closest hotel to both the old town and the ferry terminal. The distance to the ferry terminal may be important if arriving by ferry from Helsinki and especially late in the evening. On the whole the Sky hotel feels a bit more modern than the Olümpia hotel, in particular the public areas and the lobby bar which have a significantly more contemporary design. A highlight is the sky bar on the top floor, with a terrific view of the city.

The drawback of the hotel is the lack of a proper health club. Although there is a small gym available to guests there is no swimming pool and no sauna or steam room for public use. There is a private sauna though which can be booked for private use, but of course at a charge. There is also a Beauty Skin Spa, where there is also a sauna, but again the entry and the skin treatments are at a charge.

Radisson Blu Olümpia Hotel

A contemporary superior room at the Radisson Blu Hotel Olümpia

The Olümpia hotel is older and slightly more old-fashioned than the Sky hotel. You can especially notice the difference in the public areas where the reception and the lobby bar still look like when they were probably constructed in the 90s. Although they have surely been refurbished since the opening of the hotel the design has not changed much.

The rooms are very modern though and at least equally modern, or possibly even more modern, than the rooms at the Sky hotel. However if you are looking for a top floor room with a good view you get a better view from the Sky hotel since it is located closer to the old town, the port and the coastline.

A highlight of the Olümpia hotel is the health club on level 26 with swimming pool, saunas and a relaxation area. Especially for guests with children, who might enjoy an hour or two playing in the pool, the health club is a huge benefit of the Olümpia hotel.

However since the top floor is used for the healthy club there is no sky bar, just a lobby bar on the ground floor.

Verdict

Both hotels are equally close to the airport, just about 3 km. The Sky hotel is somewhat closer to the old town, so the location of this hotel is slightly better, but again the difference is no more than three blocks, around 500 metres. Both hotels have modern and well-appointed rooms.

However generally speaking the Sky hotel is a more modern hotel. The design and the facilities are more up-to-date and many guests will enjoy a drink with a good view at the sky bar. This is probably also the reason why the Sky hotel is usually a bit more expensive than the Olümpia hotel.
