In late 2015 SAS closed its lounge at Brussels airport after many years at the airport. For a while the lounge area was closed but now the space has been taken over and made into a third-party Diamond Lounge for Schengen passengers, replacing the old Diamond Lounge in the basement.
The lounge is used by most full-service airlines not part of the Lufthansa Group or Star Alliance (which all use the Brussels Airlines The Loft lounge). If you travel on a OneWorld or Skyteam airline to a Schengen destination in business class or holding a top-tier frequent flyer card you will most likely be directed to the Diamond Lounge. It is also possible to pay to enter it and use various lounge cards.
And well, rather interestingly, the interior has not changed much, in fact several parts of the lounge have not changed at all since the SAS days.
For example the self-service buffet area, which looked like this in the SAS Lounge.
Now looks like this in the Diamond Lounge, fully identical, even with the old SAS texts (which are still used in some other SAS lounge) but now with a better drinks selection, including spirits.
And the newspaper rack behind the reception desk is still the same, which looked like this in the SAS Lounge.
And which now looks like this in the Diamond Lounge.
But on the positive side there have been some improvements, such as the old and rather worn SAS armchairs which are now long gone.
Which have been replaced with these much more stylish ones.
