Where is it?
There are two Sky Lounges at Vienna Schwechat airport, both located in the Skylink Terminal used by Austrian Airlines and most other Star Alliance carriers. Both lounges are located on level 2, one lounge in the Schengen area and one lounge in the non-Schengen area.
The Schengen lounge is located right above the central taxfree area after the security control (when starting the trip in Vienna). After the security control, make a left turn and use the lift or take the escalator to level 2 and then turn right and follow the corridor. If in transit at the airport, follow the signs to the central taxfree area and then follow the signs marked “Lounges”.
The Sky Lounge lounge is located next to the Austrian Airlines lounges and share the same lobby area. All the lounges in the terminal are located in the same area.
How do I get in?
The Sky Lounge is a third-party lounge open to holders of several lounge cards and credit cards such as Priority Pass and Diners Club. A small number of airlines also use the lounge for their premium passengers.
What’s it like?
The lounge opened in 2012 at the same time as the Skylink Terminal. The interior is modern but quite unusual with brown leather sofas and armchairs and with white curtains used as partition to create different seating areas. All seats have power sockets.
The atmosphere is quite relaxed and rather pleasant but as the Skylink Terminal is mainly used by Austrian Airlines, with selected peak times during the day when most of their flights arrive and depart, the lounge can either be very full or almost empty.
Food and drinks
The self-service buffet is located in a separate room which can be reached through a small corridor from the main part of the lounge. This area can best be described as the lounge restaurant with not just the self-service buffet but also several restaurant-style tables for those who prefer to have a proper meal.
The selection of food varies depending on the time of the day but usually includes something hot at meal times. There is also soup available, salad and vegetables, bread rolls, fruits, desserts and chocolates.
The drinks selection includes Austrian red and white wine, a standard selection of sprits, soft drinks, coffee and tea.
The white wines on offer during the test visit turned out to be the same brands as served in Austrian Airlines business class.
Facilities
Restrooms and showers are available inside the lounge. Free wireless internet is offered (in fact it is offered free of charge in the entire terminal) and there are desktop internet computers available in the small business centre, where there are also work desks for those who need to work. This area is separate from the rest of the lounge, which makes it fairly quiet.
Final impression
This is a modern lounge with an interesting and rather unusual design and actually not bad at all for a third-party lounge. The armchairs are comfortable to sit in and there is an acceptable selection of food and drinks.
