The SAS lounges at Stockholm Arlanda airport are next to have automatic gates installed. This means passengers scan their boarding passes or swipe their frequent flyer cards themselves to get access to the lounge. If a valid booking is found the gate will automatically open.
Passengers with a gold card who want to bring a guest will need to enter first. The guest then scans his or her boarding pass and will be allowed to enter, of course assuming all requirements are met. In case of any problems there will still be staff available in or around the reception area.
Automatic gates were recently also installed at the SAS lounges at Oslo Gardermoen airport. Unfortunately due to the layout of the lounge passengers heading to the gold lounge need to scan the boarding pass twice, both at the entrance to the SAS lounge (business lounge) and then again to access the gold lounge.
The main benefit of this change is that the reception staff can spend more time assisting passengers with rebookings, upgrades and other requests.
