This is interesting news for Star Alliance Gold cardholders travelling frequently between Heathrow airport and central London. Star Alliance has teamed up with Heathrow Express to give their frequent flyer Gold members a new status benefit – free upgrades to first class on the train.

The benefit is fairly straight forward. The passenger purchases a regular standard class ticket, either a single or a return for the Heathrow Express. Once onboard the passenger can choose any available seat in “Business First Class” on the train and just has to show a valid Star Alliance gold card together with the train ticket to the ticket inspector.

The benefits of travelling in ‘Business First Class’ include larger and wider seats with more legroom (a 1-1 or 1-2 configuration instead of 2-2), newspapers and magazines, a personal table and power socket at each seat.

The benefit is valid from 15 February 2016 and until further notice and is open to all Star Alliance gold cardholders from any of the 21 frequent flyer programs.
