Norwegians apparently really enjoy taxfree shopping, perhaps not too surprising considering the price level in the country, and since Norway is not a member of the European Union taxfree is available to all international passengers.
Last week a brand new taxfree shop opened next to the international baggage reclaim at Oslo Gardermoen airport, available to all arriving passengers on international flights, and the new shop is quite an expansion, the space has more than doubled compared to the old taxfree shop.
All-in-all the new shop is impressive and everything is brand new. However there is a major drawback, the layout requires all international arriving passengers to pass through most of the shop which means a longer walk to reach the baggage reclaim, customs and eventually the exit. And although there are bargains to be found the overall price level is high compared to many other European countries and many prices are only really attractive to Norwegians.
