Star Alliance today signed a strategic partnership with Shanghai-based airline Juneyao Airlines to become a “Connecting Partner” of the alliance during the second quarter of 2017. In practice this will mean the Juneyao Airlines will offer Star Alliance services such as through-check of luggage and lounge access and other priority benefits to Star Alliance frequent flyer passengers at silver and gold level.
However point earnings are subject to bilateral agreements between Juneyao Airlines and selected member airlines, which may mean point earnings are possible in some programs but not in others.
“Juneyao Airlines is a terrific addition to our network proposition in China and particularly in the Shanghai market”, said Mark Schwab, CEO Star Alliance. “Thanks to Juneyao’s expanding reach, our passengers will enjoy a wide choice of flight connections through our future partner to numerous Chinese metropoles and several international destinations.”
Juneyao Airlines is based in Shanghai at Pudong and Hongqiao airports and serves a large number of cities in China as well as a few cities in Japan, South Korea and Thailand. The fleet mainly consists of Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 aircrafts.
