If you travel on Qatar Airways through Doha airport in Qatar and would like to take the opportunity to see something of the country and the city of Doha (something more than the airport transit hall and the view of the city during the approach and the initial climb) there are good news for you. In some cases you may be eligible for a free stopover with paid hotel accommodation. It is a nice way to explore a new city for a few hours before continuing to the destination. And this is how it works.

  • First of all you need to have a connection in Doha between two Qatar Airways flights which need to be at least 8 hours and no longer than 24 hours.
  • Secondly you are only eligible for the offer if there really is no other connection with a transfer time of less than 8 hours. So you cannot book a longer connection just to get a free stopover if there is an earlier connecting flight available to the destination (but of course you can always decide to have a stopover anyway, but at your own expense).
  • Finally the offer is not valid if you travel to or from Kuwait or Muscat.

If you travel between two Qatar Airways destinations which are only served once a day, or perhaps just a few days of the week, there is a good chance you can become eligible if you plan your travels well and book accordingly.

The stopover can be booked through the Qatar Airways sales and ticket offices but need to be booked at least 72 hours before arrival. If you book your ticket later than 72 hours before departure you should proceed to the transfer desk upon arrival at Doha airport to enquire about accommodation, which of course will be subject to availability.

In many cases accommodation will be provided a the Rotana Oryx Hotel. You can read a review of the hotel here.
