For a long time the terminal building at Bergen Flesland airport has been struggling with undercapacity and cramped passenger areas with few possibilities to expand the terminal with more facilities and more aircraft stands. But a new terminal building is under construction, which will be named ‘terminal 3’. A formal opening date has now been set and the inaugural date will be 17 August 2017.

When the new terminal is open the terminal area will be nearly four times larger than today, 85 000 square metres in contrast to the tiny 22 000 square metres today. This will enable many new features such as early check-in, more terminal facilities and the possibility to open new routes from Bergen.

According to Avinor, the Norwegian airport operator, the construction is progressing as planned and on budget. The terminal building will be completed in December this year while the focus during 2016 will be on the interior and the last technical installations. In 2017 testing will take place before the terminal finally opens to passengers in August.

The progress of the terminal construction can be followed on the website www.avinor.no/T3

At the same time a new pier is under construction at Oslo Gardermoen airport, which will also open in 2017 with inaugural date set to 27 April.
