Today marks the 98th anniversary of KLM and subsequently by tradition it is also the day when the latest KLM Delftware house is unveiled, the miniature houses which are given as a gift to all passengers in KLM World Business Class on longhaul flights.
As 2017 was the the retirement year for the Fokker 70 at KLM, as a nice coincidence this year’s house is the family house of Anthony Fokker, the founder of Fokker. The house is, or rather was, located in Haarlem on Kleine Houtweg 41 and dates back to 1791. The miniature replica is based on another house on the same street, no 65, which was the childhood home of Anthony Fokker. He used to live in the attic.
The house was unveiled during a ceremony in the St. Bavo Church in Haarlem with the KLM CEO Pieter Elbers presenting the first house to Jos Wienen, the Mayor of Haarlem.
The miniature house, which also contains Dutch genever, a type of gin, will naturally also soon be available in KLM World Business Class, presented to the passengers by the end of the flight.
