Alaska Airlines today announced that they intend to join the OneWorld alliance in summer 2021 thanks to the partnership with American Airlines.

The partnership will be formed in stages, starting with frequent flyers of Alaska Airlines being able to earn points on all American Airlines flights during the spring of 2020 and the launch of new American Airlines routes from Seattle, the main hub of Alaska Airlines, to India during the autumn 2020 and to London Heathrow during the spring of 2021.

The plan is to join the OneWorld alliance in summer 2021. Once approved Alaska Mileage Plan members will be able to earn points on OneWorld airlines and MVP Gold and MVP Gold 75k will be able to get status benefits when flying with other OneWorld carriers such as priority check-in, priority boarding and lounge access.
