A visit to the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg passing the Thompson Aero stand, the Northern Irish aircraft seat manufacturer. And there is a new seat available to see and try, the new Swiss longhaul business class seat.
The seat model is actually called Thompson Aero Vantage and it is not new as such, but of course the Swiss customised version of it is. There are also several other seat types in the Thompson Aero Vantage series, the most famous one being the Vantage XL.
The new seat will be available on the new Swiss Boeing 777-300ER. In business class there will be 62 seats available in a 2-2-1 or a 1-2-2 configuration.
The seat pitch of the Thompson Aero Vantage starts at 43 inches and can be adjusted according to the needs and the demands of the airline. Swiss has chosen a seat pitch of 60 inches.
When reclined the seat becomes fully flat. With a seat pitch of at least 45 inches you get a bed length of 79 inches (200 cm), which is also what you get in the Swiss version of the seat.
Each seat also has an individual screen of 16 inches with touch-screen functionality and with access to the AVOD (Audio Video On-Demand) inflight entertainment system onboard. There is also plenty of storage for personal belongings.
There are also a few fun design details such as the cool and innovative seat lamp, to create a nice ambience on evening and night flights, and the hook for the headphones. Each seat also has in-seat power and a USB-port.
