Where is it?
The Hilton Zürich Airpot Hotel, as the name suggests, is located on the grounds of Zürich Kloten airport. However the location is not close to the terminals but around 5 minutes away by car. There is a hotel shuttle which leaves every 15 minutes between the terminals and the hotel. The transfer from airport to the hotel is free but for the return ride guests need to buy a ticket from the reception, which can be done when checking out to get the charge on the hotel bill.
The hotel can also be reached by car and there is parking space for 300 cars.
As Kloten airport is located fairly close to downtown Zürich it takes only 15 minutes to reach the hotel from the city centre by car or taxi. And of course it is also possible to take a train to the airport and then the shuttle to the hotel.
The arrival experience
I caught the hotel shuttle from the terminal at around 10 pm. There is a dedicated bus stop for hotel shuttles just outside the arrivals hall so it was not particularly hard to find the right bus stop. The shuttle arrived fairly quickly and as expected the ride to the hotel took around five minutes.
As most guests arrive using the shuttle there is a small peak in the lobby when the shuttle arrives but the check-in process was still reasonably quick by a friendly young woman. As a Hilton gold card holder I was upgraded from a standard room to a deluxe room. Unfortunately not to an executive room this time, but the upgrade at least gave me a larger room and a drinks voucher to use for a complimentary soft drink, beer or glass of wine in the bar, which is part of the deluxe room concept.
The room
The deluxe room was quite spacious and in an excellent condition with a rather stylish design in warm colours and had a fairly comfortable queen-sized bed, a large work desk, an armchair and a widescreen-TV.
With a deluxe room you also get free wireless internet, coffee and tea making facilities, complimentary water, bathrobe and slippers.
The bathroom was somewhat small but very modern with toilet, shower and the standard Hilton amenities.
There was also a small welcome gift with some Swiss chocolates and a welcome card.
Food and drinks
The hotel has a combined bar and restaurant called Horizon 10 which offers a fantastic panoramic view of the beautiful surroundings and depending on the wind direction and runways used you can also see some aircrafts take off or land.
Next to the restaurant there is an executive lounge for guests staying in an executive room. I did not have access to the lounge during this visit but I visited it during an earlier stay. It is quite small but offers the same view as the bar and the restaurant.
I visited the bar in the evening to make use of my drinks voucher for a glass of wine. The bar area is quite small but otherwise not bad with friendly staff. But the prices for food and drinks are generally quite high in the hotel.
Other facilities
The hotel offers a fitness centre with gym, sauna and steam bath, which I did not have time to visit during this stay.
There is also a business centre and a conference centre with 25 meeting rooms and also a souvenir shop in the lobby selling gifts, cosmectics, snacks and other amenities you may need during a hotel stay. There is not much else in the surrounding area other than a few other airport hotels so the shop may be useful.
The hotel also offers some Hilton-branded souvenirs, including some Hilton Zürich Hotel wines.
Service
Friendly and helpful service throughout the stay, nothing to complain about.
Breakfast
Breakfast was served in the Horizon 10 restaurant in the stylish buffet area. The selection was pretty much as expected with different hot and cold dishes and some Swiss specialities. And of course the panoramic view is a great way to start the day, at least if there is enough daylight at breakfast time.
Final impression
A rather pleasant and well-maintained Hilton airport hotel. Well-appointed rooms and a bar and a restaurant with a very nice panoramic view of the surroundings. Just too bad guests have to pay to use the hotel shuttle.
