This is not really a premium option, but last night I needed to find a cheap place to stay with a good location for a short night’s sleep at Stockholm Arlanda airport for about seven hours. The choice fell on “Rest and Fly”, located between terminal 4 and SkyCity. This accommodation option is run by Pite Havsbad, a hotel and resort in northern Sweden, and it is basically a budget option for shorter overnight stays and for those seeking a place to rest for a few hours during the day.
A small room for one person costs 695 SEK (around 70 EUR) for up to ten hours. If you are two persons the price is 795 SEK for the room and there are also prices for three and four people sharing. Bed linen are provided and included in the price but if you want the staff to make the bed for you, so everything is ready when you arrive, it will cost extra. You can also choose to add breakfast, served at a nearby cafe.
Payment for the room is made in advance so everything was already settled when I arrived at the reception around midnight. It took less than a minute for the woman working the night shift to check me in and hand me the key to the room. A quick and very easy arrival, which was much appreciated as the incoming flight was late and I was very tired.
The small lobby is basic but pleasant, especially the selection of photos on the wall next to the reception are nice to look at and make the reception area rather colourful.
There are two corridors with 66 rooms in total and this is one of the corridors, facing the drop off area at terminal 4.
And this is the second corridor, with rooms on both sides. I stayed in one of the rooms to the left.
And here is the room, quite small with a bed and a bunk bed and with bed linen waiting. These rooms are for single use or for two people sharing. As you can see the bed has not been made, I decided to save the 80 SEK (8 euro) it would have cost and do it myself.
Overall the room was basic. A large bed, a smaller bunk bed, a mirror and two bedside tables. Plenty of power sockets though, which are handy to charge your devices during the night, and everything was clean and tidy, but again basic.
The restrooms and showers are communal and are located at the end of the corridor. It is also possible to visit the hotel and just take a shower, for example after a night flight. The showers facilities were clean and tidy but again, they are shared.
Final impression
All-in-all everything worked perfectly with very quick arrival formalities. The location is excellent as it is located in the basement of SkyCity, a 30 seconds walk from the check-in area and baggage reclaim at terminal 4 and within walking distance to all the other terminals. No bus transfers are needed, which is the case to reach several of the hotels at the airport and in the airport surroundings.
But the standard is basic, a no-frills concept with shared bathrooms. But although the full-service hotels at Arlanda airport sometimes have good deals, especially during weekends, this is probably the cheapest option to be found for a night’s sleep at the airport, at least if you want a private room. And the location is hard to beat.
